Programme

Two weeks from AM fundamentals to application

Week 1 focuses on processes and materials. Week 2 expands into design, artificial intelligence, process control, post-processing, characterisation and industrial implementation. A team project runs across both weeks.

Processes and materials

18 to 24 January 2027

Detailed timetable

Design intelligence and industrialisation

25 to 29 January 2027

From programme content to research practice

Participants combine scientific understanding, laboratory experience and industrial perspectives in a collaborative AM project.

What participants will learn

  • Identify the main AM process families and compare their advantages and limitations.
  • Select an AM strategy based on product requirements, material and production volume.
  • Relate material selection, process conditions and component performance.
  • Integrate AM with conventional manufacturing and post-processing.
  • Apply an AM workflow to a case study and communicate the results.

Recognition of participation

Participants who attend the required activities, complete the team project and present the final poster session receive a certificate of participation. The Winter School awards 3 ECTS credits, subject to recognition by the participant home institution.

A shared challenge across both weeks

International teams develop an additive manufacturing strategy for a research or industrial case, compare alternatives and communicate their proposal in the final poster session.
